What dental veneers do

Veneers are thin shell-like covers designed to conceal any cosmetic and/or functional imperfections of the tooth.

Made from either dental porcelain or composite resin they offer an attractive and durable cosmetic dental restoration that sits over the existing tooth surface.

Multi-functional in nature, both composite and porcelain veneers can hide a wide variety of flaws including:

  • Heavy blemishing or ingrained tooth staining
  • Small cracks or chips
  • Pitted tooth enamel
  • The enhancement of facial contours

In addition, both porcelain and composite veneers can also alter the appearance of

  • Slight tooth gaps
  • Crooked or twisted teeth
  • Unevenly sized teeth

Dental veneers in Chesham – What can patients expect?

As the name suggests, dental bridges are designed to ‘bridge’ the gap for a missing tooth or teeth, filling in any unsightly spaces.

Comprising of a pontic middle tooth (the tooth that bridges the gap) and abutment teeth (dental crowns that fit over the teeth immediately adjacent to the gap) a dental bridge creates a lifelike and durable restoration.

Dental bridges can also be held in place by dental implants and are typically made from dental porcelain with a ceramic base to provide the best blend of durability and aesthetics.

In addition to restoring an incomplete smile, dental bridges provide a host of other benefits that include:

  • Improving how you speak and chew
  • Equal distribution of bite force so as not to place excess pressure on neighbouring teeth
  • Prevention of drifting by nearby teeth; and
  • The enhancement of facial contours

Find out how we place a dental veneer at York House

1.

Develop your smile plan

During a free consultation, we’ll assess both the cosmetic and functional needs of your smile. From this, we’ll create your tailored treatment plan.

2.

Veneer preparation

If you are opting for porcelain veneers we may need to remove a thin layer of tooth enamel. This is so that each veneer sits flush in your smile line. This is a comfortable process and should be over relatively quickly.

3.

Taking impressions

Next, our experienced cosmetic dentist may take impressions or moulds of your teeth so that your permanent custom veneers can be made. We may also fit you with temporary veneers in the meantime.

4.

Receive your permanent smile transformation

Once your custom veneers are made (usually after 1-2 weeks) any temporary ones are removed and your permanent veneers are bonded into position.

NB -Composite resin veneers don’t require manufacture and instead are applied directly to the surface of the tooth. Once hardened, the veneer then buffed and polished to give a seamless smile finish.

Frequently asked questions

What are the key advantages of dental veneers?

Any preparation when placing veneers involves removing very little (if any) tooth structure. Dental veneers can instantly improve the appearance of a smile and gums also respond favourably to them. They can be colour-matched to your existing smile and in the case of porcelain veneers, they are stain-resistant

How long does a dental veneer last?

Because of their very nature, porcelain veneers will usually last longer than their composite cousins. So typically and with the right care, you can expect porcelain dental veneers to last somewhere between 10-15 years whereas composite veneers last up to 5 years

Who is a good candidate for dental veneers?

Anyone with badly stained or chipped teeth or anyone considering a smile makeover could be a good candidate for dental veneers. Furthermore, age does not normally play a factor in eligibility as many older patients have also been fitted with veneers in the past.

How much do veneers cost?

Here at York Dental, porcelain veneers cost around £ but they can last for many years. Alternatively, composite dental veneers are much cheaper but they have a lesser life span.To make dental veneers affordable, we offer a range of flexible payment plans and 0% interest loans with no deposit necessary. So why not ask us about these at the time of booking your smile appointment?
